Excel to Jira Importer - admin approval notes
A short review page for Jira admins and Atlassian owners who want to understand what the app does, how imports are reviewed, and how Excel backlog data is handled.
What the app does
Excel to Jira Importer helps project teams turn Excel backlog or scope handovers into Jira issues.
It supports a guided flow:
- Upload Excel workbook
- Choose worksheet and header row
- Map columns to Jira fields
- Clean up messy values
- Validate rows
- Preview issues
- Create or update selected Jira issues
Nothing changes before review
The app is designed around a review-first workflow. Users can inspect mappings, transformed values, validation results and selected rows before creating or updating Jira issues.
Users can review row messages and final Jira values before the import action.
Importable rows can be selected or cleared before Jira changes are made.
Required fields, hierarchy, duplicate handling and cleanup results are checked before import.
The report helps teams review created, updated, skipped or failed rows.
Reusable mappings help teams repeat controlled imports when similar workbooks come back later.
Less manual cleanup for Jira admins
Without a guided importer, teams often ask admins to help convert Excel files to CSV, fix field values, rebuild descriptions, handle hierarchy, avoid duplicates or recover from bad imports.
Excel to Jira Importer gives project teams a safer flow while keeping the import reviewed and predictable.
Data handling
The current security notes describe the app as built for Jira Cloud and Atlassian Forge. They also state that no Jira Data Center, Connect or separate vendor-hosted product backend is used for backlog data.
- Built for Jira Cloud.
- Designed as an Atlassian Forge app.
- No separate vendor backend for backlog files is described in the current security documentation.
- Full Excel workbook files are not intended to be stored by the app.
- Jira issues are created or updated only after the user confirms the import.
Suggested trial approval checklist
- Confirm the app is installed only in the intended Jira site
- Test with a small non-critical Excel file first
- Review field mappings before import
- Import selected rows only during the first test
- Confirm created or updated Jira issues match the preview
- Save a reusable mapping only after validation
Early launch offer: help with your first Excel-to-Jira import
Trying a new Jira import app is easier when the first real file works. During the early launch period, we help trial users prepare their first Excel-to-Jira import by email. Send a sanitized workbook, column list or screenshots, and we will help you choose the right worksheet, header row, field mapping, cleanup rules and validation approach before you import.
- choosing the right import structure
- mapping Excel columns to Jira fields
- preparing Description Builder setup
- cleaning messy values before validation
- checking hierarchy and parent-child setup
- understanding validation errors before import
No video call is required. You stay in control of the import, and nothing changes in Jira until you review and confirm it in the app. Please avoid sending confidential customer data unless your organization allows it. A small anonymized sample is usually enough.
